This weeks Southern Belles challenge was to make a card with an unusual fold, which got me thinking back to a card class I taught about 4 years ago which was a card called Fold Out Z Cards. So here is two cards I have made with this unusual fold.

Here are the Instructions:

Cut a piece of cardstock 7¼” x 9¼”, from the left side score at 2½” and 4¾”. Fold the first score (2½”) to the back and the second score (4¾”) to the front forming a Z. Using Bone folder crease well and unfold and lay out flat. Cut two 2½” x 7¼” strips of pattern paper or coloured cardstock. Adhere one on the left edge of the card and the other on the right edge. Cut 3 circles 2½” in size from cardstock and embelish with your chosen stamp image. ( I have also used the 1¼” Circle Punch and 1 3/8″ Circle Punch to place on top of the 2½” cut circles). Once you have adhered your circles together, Adhere circles down the centre of the first fold. Cut along the outside right half of the circle with a craft knife. Fold card back into the Z fold and your finished.

I had a request for instructions for the Pocket Card that I made for our Paper Pattern Challenge for The Southern Belles group. So here is a photo tutorial. For this Pocket Card I have chosen A Christmas theme using the Season of Joy Stamp set and the Holiday Harmony Designer Series Paper, Cardstock-Always Artichoke, Purely Pomegranate and River Rock.

Supplies

  • One 8¼” x 5¾”  Piece of Cardstock, for card
  • One 5″ x 3 1/8″ Piece of Cardstock, for insert
  • One 5¾” x 2″ Piece of Cardstock, for front of card
  • One 5½” x 3½” Piece of Pattern Paper for Inside card
  • One 5¾” x 1½” Strip of Pattern Paper for front of card
  • Ribbon
  • Stamp-a-ma-jig
  • Scallop Punch
  • 1 3/8″ Circle Punch
  • Stamp Set of your Choice
  • Snail adhesive
  • Bone Folder
  • Ink Pads

 Step by Step

Step 1: Score 3½” in from the bottom of the card and fold with the Bone Folder.

Step 2: Open card out and attach Piece of Pattern paper 5½” x 3½” to the inside top of the card.

Step 3: Take the piece of cardstock that is 5¾” x 2″ ( I have punched scallops on this piece of cardstock with the corner rounder) and then attach with the snail adhesive the Pattern Piece of Paper (5¾” x 1½”) to the cardstock.

I have also added a tiny strip of coordinating colour onto the top of the pattern paper.

Step 4: Attach ribbon to card and tie a bow.

Step 5: Using your Stamp-a-ma-jig and taking a small stamp from the set you have chosen, stamp images along onto the outside card that has been folded until you have a row to the end of the card.

Step 6: Using the 1 3/8″ Circle punch, Punch half a circle about 1½” in from the right hand side of the card. ( This is where the Scalloped insert will sit).

Step 7: Adhere the Scalloped edge decorated piece to the front of the folded piece of card about ½” from the bottom.

Step 8: Take the piece of cardstock that is cut at 5″ x 3 1/8″, you can corner round this piece if you like, this is the card insert piece. Then using the stamp you have chosen, Stamp image on to chosen cardstock and cut out with the 1 3/8″ Circle Punch then in a different colour punch out a scallop, with scallop punch and adhere stamped image to it. Your card stock and stamped image will look like this:

Step 9: Take your insert card piece and line it up inside the pocket card, then take your scallop piece and line it up with the half circle cut. Add some snail where the cardstock is showing through the circle cut and adhere the scallop. Once you pull it out the scallop should be attached to the inside piece.

Step10: To finish of card add some adhesive to each side of the inside card to close pocket. (Make sure your insert piece will fit in once it’s stuck down). You can also stamp some words on the insert card piece in the theme you have chosen. Here is the finished card.

I was fortunate to have a day to myself yesterday as my boys spent a day with there cousins, so I went off to a local scrapbooking store for a browse. There is so much nice stuff out there and very hard to resist not buying the whole shop. I did come away with two sheets of the new Basic Grey paper from the collection Offbeat and the sticker sheet that matches and here is what I created with them:

I came across this great template for a little box with lid, which holds the Stampin’ Up! 3″x3″ Love Notes and Envelopes. I have used the Tart & Tangy Stamp set with the Summer Picnic Designer Series Paper.

Here is a closer look at the Box and Cards:

Here are the instructions to make the box:

Bottom of Box

Cut cardstock 8½” x 5¼”. On the 8½” side, score in 3½” from each end. On the 5¼” side, score in 1″ from each end. Cut in on the 3½” score line up to the 1″ score line. Fold the box up, and use double sided tape to hold it together.

Box Lid:

Cut cardstock 5 3/8″ x 3½”. Score in 1″ on all four sides. Snip in on the 3½” side up to the score line. Add double sided tape to the inside of the corners and fold together.

Decorate with designer paper of your choice and decorate as you like.

Here is a diagram to help as a guide line in making the box. ( With the lid for the box I actually cut it at 5¼” by 3½” as I found the lid to be to long for the box)

Hope you like it. Enjoy!

One of the family’s from my son’s school are leaving to live in the country and as I had quite a few photo’s of there kids from school activity’s, excursions and birthday party’s etc, I decided I would put them on to Cd for them. But I didn’t want to just give it in a plain old boring case. So I made this cover for the cd.

I have used the True Friends Stamp set with the Apple Cider Designer Series Paper from the Spring Mini Catalogue. The cardstock is Chocolate Chip and Really Rust. I have used Stampin’ Write Markers Chocolate chip, Really Rust and Old Olive for the centre flower stamp. I have sewed around the paper with the sewing machine and added the chocolate chip 5/8″ grossgrain ribbon to keep the cover closed, inside I have made a pocket to hold the cd.

This week has been a little bit crazy and I actually haven’t been very creative, so I haven’t had time to post this week. I am happy to say that I had some time today to complete a scrapbook page. I am currently working on my eldest son’s baby album so here is the page I completed.

One of my friends who I meet regularly with to scrapbook has been unwell of late and has been in and out of hospital a few times over the last few weeks. So I have made this card, which I hope will cheer her up.

I have used the colour Temping Turquoise as the base of this card because this is her favourite colour, I also added Brillant blue and matted it on to black cardstock. I used one of the stamps from the True Friend Stamp set and stamped it in Versa Mark for the background. For the flower stamp I have used the Tempting Turquoise and Green Galore Stampin’ Write Markers. I have stamped the words Thinking of you from the Hostess set- For a Friend in Brillant Blue ink. Then added some ribbon and a gem to the centre of the flower.
